Packing

For over 38 years we have been trusted by well known household brands to fulfil their packing. From our origins as a retail brand we began working with the John Lewis Partnership in 1988. We are now proud to also work with other notable brands such as Waitrose, Laithwaites, Procter & Gamble, Arla and Sacla.

Arla Foods UK is the largest dairy company in the country and is home to leading dairy brands Anchor, Cravendale, and Lactofree. It has a turnover of £2.3 billion. As well as being number one in fresh liquid milk, butter, spreads and cream, Arla is the UK’s largest cheese manufacturer.

The Challenge
One of the main challenges for Arla’s Westbury Dairy was finding a logistics company that could provide a just-intime service for both inbound and outbound logistics. That’s where we came in. Our site at Shaftesbury is within a 30-minute drive of Westbury and more
importantly we already had a team of skilled staff that were highly experienced in working within a fast moving and complex supply chain.

The Solution
Arla initially moved it’s Westbury packaging requirement to Virginia Hayward in 2020 and after a successful implementation, the collection and storage of powder followed 11 months later in February 2021.

The Result
Since moving to Virginia Hayward, Arla Westbury has seen a marked improvement in response times for packaging required for production. Whether during the night or at the weekend, we are still able to pick and deliver to the factory in less than 90 minutes. Westbury have also seen major improvements in reporting via our in-house WMS, handling, by way of reduced customer complaints and an improved exports service including customs clearance since Brexit.

Sacla UK are the distributors for products made by Sacla Italia, an Italian pesto and pasta sauce brand founded in 1939 and still run by the founding family.

The Challenge
When Sacla UK decided to offer its products online it was important they partnered with a company that could not only provide the technical expertise to assist them with a move to this new market but a company that had similar family values to their own. In Virginia Hayward they found that company as it too is run by its founding family that work to extremely high standards, constantly looking to raise service levels and push the boundaries of what can be achieved.

The Solution
A move to our Shaftesbury site in 2019 followed where we were able to provide a warehousing, e-fulfilment and return management services. Other value-added services quickly followed such as packaging sourcing, improved courier management and real-time reporting.

The Result
The e-retailing arm of Sacla UK continues to grow as record sales are forecast again for 2021. Delivering a 99.99% pick accuracy with a fast next-day service and live online tracking, customer satisfaction is high as is repeat business. Constantly working collaboratively with Sacla, we have also reduced their packaging costs and assisted with their move to environmentally friendly packaging.
