Health and Safety

At Virginia Hayward we take the health and safety of all our staff extremely seriously, and our BRC accredited procedures are just part of our Health and Safety Management System.

We are continuously improving our Health and Safety processes; the following are all key to our ongoing success and growing our “Safety First” culture across the business:

Policy and Leadership Commitment – The H&S Policy is the primary method used to communicate Leadership’s commitment and expectations regarding H&S aspects, issues and risks.

  • Risk Assessments – building a systematic process to identify, assess and prioritise hazards and ensure that risks are controlled or targeted for control
  • Training – a fundamental and necessary method for shaping behaviours and developing our employees
  • Communication – Team Meetings, HSE Committee Meetings, Daily Safety Messages, H&S Notice Boards, Tool Box Talks and Employee Assistance Program are just some of our communication channels
  • Operational Procedures – Standard Operating Procedures for all key activities
  • Incident Investigation – we strive to prevent all adverse H&S incidents and have an investigation process that involves the employees and focuses on root cause rather than blame. This is supported by an extensive CCTV system
  • Root Cause Analysis – allows us to implement actions that go beyond fixing the immediate cause
  • Corrective Action – all actions are owned and tracked to closure

Health and Safety also includes the wellbeing of the employees at Virginia Hayward and in addition to our First Aid and Fire Warden Teams, we have a defibrillator on site and also have trained Mental Health First Aiders.
